Our Founder
My name is John Persinger, and I am the founder of the ABC's
of Self Defense Program. I have been training and teaching
the Korean Art of Self Defense, known as Tae Kwon Do, for
over 30 years. I am the owner of a Children's Self Defense
training facility in San Ramon, California, and I'm a parent.
In the past few years, there have been many tragic events
involving our young children. As a parent, I can only imagine
how it must feel receiving such tragic news that my child has
been hurt, abused, abducted or worse.
We, as adults, must remember that all children are our
responsibility. It is up to us to provide them with all of the
information they need to survive when they're out on their
own. And that is what the ABC's of Self Defense is all
about, "How to Survive".
Safety Awareness Education is the key to protecting our
children. But it involves a lot more than just teaching a
child "Stranger - Danger".
Children have to be taught how to be more alert and better
aware of their surroundings. They have to be able to
identify a dangerous situation and try to avoid it before
they're in trouble.
Children must also be able to understand and identify the
lures used by strangers and predators. These factors alone
would keep many children out of harm's way.
For other situations, Self Defense may be the only way out.
I have found, after many years of training with children, that
the best way to handle an attacker it to escape and run,
rather than to try to fight back.
Most of the attacks on children have been by adults who
overpower them. Children need to know good Self
Defense and Escape Techniques that will work in these
situations. The Techniques in this program work!
The ABC's of Self Defense is designed as a Safety
Education Program for all Elementary School Students,
Junior High School Students and their families.
My hope is that someday all public schools will implement
this type of Safety Awareness Program.
